About
Alessa Joosten creates wearable objects between the fields of Design, Fashion and Art.
As my work is mainly circulating around the human body, I define my pieces as body related objects or jewellery in the broadest sense. Most of them seem to be wearable but aren’t very functional at all. This is because one of my subject matters is exploring the limits of jewellery and questioning the function of it.
In many cases I’m playing with genres and stereo images, mixing them up. By creating crossovers, I ‘d like to challenge and expand the beholders perspective on objects surrounding us.
Furthermore, I’m interested in examining the functionality of materials and alienate them from their conventional use. Material-transformation is part of my process. I’d like to push materials to its limits by using them in a different context.
